  PAKULA HOOK OUTS

It's not until you have, or witness a serious accident trying to get large hooks out of active fish that the need for reliable easy to use tools to remove hooks with greater safety becomes apparent. That was certainly the case with Peter Pakula who had gone many decades without mishap removing hooks from active game fish, but early in 2013 he miscalculated a marlin's movement and ended up with one hook in the fish and the other through a finger. Luckily through the fast action of the crew there was no serious damage, but the incident could have easily turned very nasty.
As a result Peter quickly set to work designing the 'Pakula Hook Outs' comprising of two tools that can be used individually to get hooks out using single hook rigs and as a pair if using twin hook rigs.

Using The Pakula Hook Outs

Scenario 1 - Single Hook Rig:
You have a lively fish next to the boat and you want to get the hooks out to release the fish.
You can use either tool to remove single hooks.
Get the hook in either slot depending on whether you need to pull or push the hook out.
As you push or pull you need to 'give' a little on the leader so you are not pushing or pulling against the fish's weight and not the leader.

Scenario 2 - Twin Hook Rig:
You have a lively fish next to the boat and you want to get the hooks out to release the fish.
If both hooks are in the fish, use the Pakula Hook Out 500 to remove the hardest hook to get to first. First, hold the point of the free hook in the Hook Holder Tube.
Then use the 300 to remove the second hook.
As with the single hook, as you push or pull you need to 'give' a little on the leader so you are not pushing or pulling against the fish's weight and not the leader.

Scenario 3 - Gaffed Fish:
You have a lively fish next to the boat that you have gaffed and you want to get the hooks out.
This is very dangerous and where most accidents happen.
It's your call as to whether it's safe enough to remove the hooks, but we strongly suggest leaving the hooks in until the fish has need dispatched
and even then great care should be taken, especially with species such as Mahi Mahi.
